We’ve always had so many unanswered questions about Japanese action comic punk band Peelander-Z. Like, are they really from outer space? What’s the true meaning of the song “So Many Mike“? How do they keep those costumes looking so lemony fresh?
Well, we may never know the answer to that last question, but thanks to the good people over at Performer magazine, we now know that they are, in fact, not really from outer space, and that the song “So Many Mike” is about how Peelander Yellow knows too many American dudes named Mike. Those and many other mysteries are solved in this highly entertaining interview Performer did with P-Yellow, in which Peelander’s fearless leader admits, in slightly broken English, to ripping off their look from the Power Rangers, and compares his band to tuna fish. You’ll just have to read the interview to find out what the fuck he’s talking about. (Nice tease, right? You’re welcome, Performer magazine.)
The interview inspired us to check out Peelander-Z’s cover of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” featuring one of the band’s newer members, Peelander Pink, on lead vocals. The sound quality on the clip below isn’t great, but the synchronized dance moves make up for it.
